About Environmental Health at APHA
APHA works to make connections between healthy communities and healthy people. A healthy community promotes healthy living and healthy people by ensuring access to safe and nutritious foods; providing safe places to walk, run and bike; protecting air and water; enhancing access to health care; and advancing other healthy enablers. APHA focuses attention on the needs of underserved communities and vulnerable populations and advocates for health to be included in all policies
APHA works with partners and members - including the Environment Section of APHA - to bring national attention to environmental health issues. The environmental health team is housed within APHA's Center for Public Health Policy.
APHA develops targeted educational materials and messages that highlight the connection between healthy communities and healthy people. APHA promotes programs and strategies that create healthy communities and health equity by addressing the social determinants of health.
APHA uses science-based policies developed by its members as the foundation for its work in the following focus areas:
